The Judges Have Spoken
The finalists of Brand Thunder’s Pop Culture Theme Contest have emerged. After many hours of debate and many libations… I mean, much deliberation we finally got some responses that were vaguely intelligible and could use.
Below you’ll find the three semi-finalist themes that our mystery judges decided on as worthy contenders for the Most Popular Theme category. To help choose the ultimate winner, go to our poll on Facebook and cast your ballot! You’ve been hearing this a lot lately, but your vote counts – so do your civic duty now. You have until Thursday, November 8, to vote for your favorite of the three themes below.
The winner of the Judges choice and Best Design will be announced on Monday, November 5. We probably could have had that announcement today, but our friends from the TV industry said it was good for the ratings if we had a cliff hanger and got people to tune in next week. 4AM at Denny’s is no place to discuss the differences between the Internet and broadcast television – so Monday it is.

Web browsing is all about efficiency these days. As the major players in the market fight for supremacy, each browser has its own set of shortcuts that are meant to make everyday surfing and in-browser work easier than ever.

When Firefox 16 was released earlier this month, Mozilla had to pull it almost immediately due to a few security flaws. Those flaws were quickly fixed, though, and Firefox 16 has been up and running without any security issues since. As you download and get used to the updated browser, be sure to enhance its look with a Firefox 16 theme. At Brand Thunder, we have plenty of Firefox 16 compatible themes available, loaded with features that make browsing better.

Charity Giveaway
Today we announced we’re going to share our good fortune with a charity or non-profit that you choose! We were so thrilled with our announcement of Brand Thunder’s deal with Major League Baseball that the idea of a “Major League Giveaway” immediately came about.
We know how powerful connecting to fans through the browser theme can be, but not everyone can afford the cost of a Brand Thunder custom built theme for Chrome, Firefox and IE – so we’re giving one away.
The winner will get Brand Thunder’s full treatment. Design, build and test of the browser theme. We’ll also provide all assets to help with the theme launch including banner ads, download page HTML and an email to notify the fan base. It’s what our clients get and you’ll enjoy the same world-class treatment.

The debate continues over whether it’s better to have a closed system for distributing apps or a more open one. You see it a lot in comparing Apple’s App Store to Google’s Android Marketplace. Apple reviews and approves every app before launch. You’re ensured a certain level of product quality, integrity and safety because of that pre-approval. Android – buyer beware. It’s easy for anyone to upload an app, and while it’s a waste of time when you download a poorly designed and functioning app, it’s harmful when that app carries malicious code with it.
The battle is also fought in the browser space. Firefox has a “sandbox” that all extensions must enter to be reviewed by one of the Mozilla community volunteers before it’s ultimately released into the public. The Google Chrome Web Store is like the Android Marketplace in that anything and everything loaded is immediately available for public consumption.

Firefox has rolled out its latest version and, like many updates, it comes with a host of features that are designed to improve a user’s browsing experience. In the case of Firefox 14, the biggest draw might come from its new use of SSL-encrypted HTTPS search functionality.
A favicon will also no longer be shown in the URL bar next to the address; instead, it will now be a globe or padlock in order to prevent malicious sites from misleading users with padlock favicons.
This has improved search security in the browser, which is perhaps the most important aspect of all. Other

Updating your Firefox browser is ideal because it helps you take advantage of all of the new features that come in a new version. It’s understandable for one to be wary of updating for fear of losing add-ons, but most Firefox add-ons are already compatible with new versions of the browser by default.
However, some Firefox add-ons are not always immediately compatible with a new version. However, there is no need to fret – you can get all of your add-ons working again in a few easy steps.

We’re proud of our announced relationship with MLB.com, and we think fans will be excited about the newly available themes. As a result, we’ve been giving shout outs to baseball bloggers so they can weigh in and hopefully share with their readers.
We love the feedback we get and in whatever form it comes. This week we had a good dialogue with the folks over at Infieldfly.ca. There was concern over the warning that pops on Chrome when you install our theme on Chrome. It concerns us to, and Google will even admit it’s a little intimidating – but it’s an honest share of information. Google wants you to know this theme can see all the web pages you visit. It’s true we can, but we don’t.
