It’s been a phenomenal tournament and with solid basketball all around. We’re now down to the Final Four teams in the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. Gary Parish, over at CBSSports.com, says “the only thing worse than Calipari losing in the Final Four with this roster would be Calipari losing to Pitino’s Cardinals in the Final Four with this roster. It would crush the Big Blue Nation more than Christian Laettner’s buzzer-beater in the 1992 East Regional final and sink Calipari worse than Mario Chalmers’ buzzer-beater in the 2008 national title game.” How’s that for adding drama to a must-win situation?

The Buckeyes make their first trip to the Final Four since 2007, where they lost in the national championship to Florida. They have lost in the regional semifinals in each of the past two seasons, and coach Thad Matta wasn’t sure they would make it that far after a series of poor practices. Chastened with mediocrity, they responded with motivation and are on their way to the Big Easy.

2. Kansas

The Jayhawks play in their first Final Four since 2008, when they won the national championship. For those of you looking for any kind of sign, Kansas began this year’s tournament in Omaha, Neb., the same place as four years ago. We’ll see if it helps get them back in the Championship game.

Buckeye Basketball Winner!

The Ohio State Buckeyes tipped off this year’s basketball tournament season by giving away a Thad Matta signed basketball to one lucky user of the official Buckeye browser theme. While the field was more crowded than 68 teams, we still emerged with one winner and Martin (Sonny) Mendes was the Buckeye fan who took home the prize!

“I received the basketball today and I am thrilled to get it. I enjoy the theme toolbar because I have instant access to all the OSU stories while it is always displayed on my Browser. Thanks again and GO BUCKEYES!,” Mendes said.

The Buckeyes Athletics department ran the contest as a reward to the loyal users of its browser theme.  A button appeared in user’s themes for approximately two weeks in March, presenting the opportunity to enter to win the Thad Matta autographed basketball. Fans who clicked on the button filled out a short entry form for their chance to win.

The Buckeyes have had great success running contests and promotions within their browser theme. Last June, a promotion to giveaway a free Fathead returned phenomenal results.

The things you find when you open up your theme gallery to user generated content. The title “A Song of Fire and Ice” may not ring a bell. You may not even recall the name George R. R. Martin. Hopefully, when you hear “Game of Thrones” you envision epic adventures, an HBO series and the best trilogy of books this side of Middle Earth. (Why are the best series written by authors with two middle names? And the initials “R. R.” for that matter. We demand answers!)

Thanks to designer Baby Gaga, there’s a tribute collection of themes for Game of Thrones.

Our research team worked hours to find that Wikipedia describes the TV show as follows. Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom’s noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise.
