Here are Brand Thunder’s predictions for the 2013 MLB season:
AL East – Toronto Blue Jays
No team in baseball made more impressive off-season moves than the Blue Jays, who completely revamped their team – especially the pitching rotation – in one trade with the Miami Marlins. This division is always a brutal slog, but the Blue Jays come out on top this season.
AL Central – Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers came up short in last year’s World Series, but this division is still theirs for the taking. Led by Justin Verlander – arguably the greatest pitcher on the planet – the Tigers are poised for another deep playoff run, making this one of the best 2013 baseball themes.
AL West – Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
The Angels already have Albert Pujols and Mike Trout, but they decided to add Josh Hamilton this offseason anyway. The Oakland Athletics had a surprising run to the division crown last season, but 2013 will be the Angels’ year.
AL Wild Cards – New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians
Despite their aging roster, are you really going to count out the Yankees? This is Mariano Rivera’s farewell tour and the Yanks still have plenty of firepower when it comes to both their hitting and pitching. Like the team itself, this is a baseball theme that nearly always comes out on top.
No team overhauled its roster as drastically as the Cleveland Indians did this offseason. They’ve gone from being an afterthought to a legitimate playoff contender, and we think they squeak into the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
NL East – Washington Nationals
If the Nationals didn’t ridiculously shut down Stephen Strasburg early last season, they might have just made – and won – the World Series. Fans of this MLB browser theme have plenty of reasons to be excited, even if the end of 2012 is still leaving them a little sour.
NL Central – Cincinnati Reds
The Cardinals are always a dangerous team in the Central (and once they’re in the playoffs, they always make a big run), but we think the Reds at least win the division. Can they avoid more postseason disappointment, though?
NL West – San Francisco Giants
The Giants fly under the radar almost every year, which is pretty astounding when you consider how good they are. A solid offense and a great pitching staff will put the Giants right back in the championship hunt in 2013. Plus, if you still want to relive the glory of 2012, this MLB theme also serves that important purpose.
NL Wild Cards – Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves
Having baseball’s largest payroll doesn’t always guarantee success (just ask the Yankees), but we think the Dodgers have enough for a Wild Card spot. These “super teams” don’t always work out in baseball, which will make this an especially interesting summer for Dodgers fans.
The Braves are perennial playoff contenders, which makes this one of the best baseball themes of all. Even without veteran leader Chipper Jones, who has been on the team since, well, forever, there is plenty of talent on this team.
Brand Thunder’s World Series Prediction:
L.A. Angels over Nationals in six games.
